Tara Starling – Instructor Biography

Tara-Starling

Tara Starling has been a celebrity makeup artist in the Hollywood film & television industry for over 15 years, working with some of the world’s top actors, musicians, and athletes.  She has lent her talents to over 50 films, many of which have garnered Emmys, MTV Movie Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Best Picture titles at film festivals the planet over. Her work spans many genres, including film, television, music videos, commercial print, editorial, and corporate, and has gained viral media attention all over the world. From high-fashion to special effects, Tara’s versatile talent and creative vision keep her in high demand.

In addition to being a #1 Best-Selling author (she co-authored “Living Proof: Celebrating the Gifts that Came Wrapped in Sandpaper” with Lisa Nichols of “The Secret”,) Tara is an acclaimed international speaker, and is highly sought after to address women of all ages as well as corporate and educational groups.

Known as The Beauty Architect, Tara empowers women with the blueprints and tools to transform themselves and their lives from the inside out. No longer content to merely make women “look beautiful” on the outside, she now brings to bear her genius in image and beauty architecture–along with her talent to distill and communicate liberating truths in a dynamic, unforgettable way–to help women Debunk the Beauty Myth, Take Back Beauty, and live as the Star of their Own Lives.

In 2010 Tara founded the TAKING BACK BEAUTY MOVEMENT, a growing national social movement that aims to: 1) Debunk the powerful beauty myths of the media which are so harmful to women, 2) Redefine beauty in our society to include all sizes, shapes, colors and ages, and 3) Create a groundswell of public pressure to compel the media to depict women a way that is socially responsible.

As a co-founder of SOUL FOOD USA, a non-profit organization, Tara recruits and organizes volunteers from the community twice a month to make hundreds of sandwiches and hand-deliver them–along with love, affirmation, and respect–to the homeless in city shelters and on the streets. In the 3 years since SOUL FOOD USA was created, Tara and her organization have made and served over 50,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the needy. She also serves on the board of The Ivy Girl Academy, and consults with various other non-profit groups.

Tara is a world humanitarian and has travelled to India and Africa, teaching goal-setting tools to underprivileged women’s colleges, high schools, and Maasai elite warriors, setting up sewing co-ops, spearheading tree-planting projects, and instituting sustainable nutrition-based farming practices. She is actively involved in raising money to fund micro-enterprise grants and loans for entrepreneurial women in Western Kenya and the Maasai Mara who are diligently working their way out of poverty.

Tara loves to create balance between work and play by writing, hosting chocolate tastings with her friends and family, training hummingbirds to eat out of her hands, and teaching her pet pygmy goat and Persian cat new tricks.
